ABOUT
Jan Kohrt is a German drummer based in the north west of Germany. With a natural knack for music, he eventually decided to focus his energy on his love for drums.
If you must know, it was the english band Queen and drummer Roger Taylor that put him over the edge.
In the early days, Jan would develop his skills by playing along with the albums that inspired him during his formative years. Later he studied with acclaimed German drummer Michael Ehré.
In April 2021 Jan joined the alternative/progressive rockband "Abraham Sarache" from Amsterdam (NL). He has played legendary venues such as the "Melkweg" in Amsterdam, the ProgPowerEurope Festival or has recorded at world famous Wisseloord Studios together with Abraham Sarache.
From 2022 - 2024 Jan was part of the live band of the German pop/rock act "Frollein Motte" from Hamburg and has toured with them all across Germany and Austria.
Starting to work and recording with the American singer/songwriter Troy Petty in late 2021, Jan was asked to become the permanent drummer of Troy´s band in summer 2022. He followed up Grammy nominated musician and producer Ken Coomer.
Besides being active in different bands and doing international touring, he is also involved in many other projects and recording sessions with various artists. Jan does not only record drums for other people but is also involved in songwriting and composing processes, the arrangements as well as the mixing and the producing of the music.

RECORDING DRUMS
Creating the best drum parts for your music
I am very lucky to have an own studio where my drums are permanently set and miked up.
This way I am always ready to play, practice and record. I have spent a lot of time to get my kit sounding as good as it can - although this is a journey that never ends. For me, the essence of a great rhythm track is real drums, played live with feel and groove. The goal should always be to find a unique drum part for a song that just fits the song and the musical atmosphere to 100%.
Recording drums isn't easy at all - the more important it is to do it with passion and perfection.
Developing a great drum part for your music is the key element to achieve a solid rhythm track.
In my studio I record a main setup of 14 channels of drums at a high audio resolution. I have all the close mics (kick, snare, hi-hat and toms) plus a pair of overheads and a pair of room mics. This way I am flexible when it comes to creating different sounds for different situations.
Since I created my home studio back in 2018 I also got involved in mixing the drums.
You can receive a finished drum stereo mix, premixed stems or of course all raw drum tracks. It´s up to you and what fits best to your project!
For both, mixing and recording, I use Cubase Pro on a Mac.
